| www.manchester.anglican.org The Diocese of Manchester covers a relatively small but densely populated geographical area which consists mainly of a large part of Greater Manchester and stretches in one or two places into southern Lancashire. It has a total population of 1,980,000. In addition to the cities of Manchester and Salford the diocese includes the towns of Ashton under Lyne, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton, Leigh, Rawtenstall, and parts of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Stockport, Trafford and Wigan. Most of these towns were historically centres of the textile industry and each maintains its own individual character and separate identity.
